It was later found and tagged by a hunter with a cow permit.
d These two transmitters are presumed illegal harvest because transmission ceased unexpectedly during the fall
hunting season. One was less than one year old, the other was less than two years old.
e Two of these are presumed transmitter malfunctions because transmission ceased unexpectedly during the spring
(one in April and one in June). Both transmitters were between 15 and 18 months old.
f Beginning 9/1/84, there were 36 working transmitters. In addition, one elk with a failed transmitter was
harvested and another elk with a failed transmitter was sighted so different beginning totals are used. 38
transmitters were used to calculate mortality and 36 transmitters were used to calculate transmitter failure and
loss.
9 All of these transmitters are presumed illegal harvest because. they ceased transmission during the hunt and all
were less than 2 years old.
h One of these transmitters disappeared in the fall and was possibly poached but was approximately 31 months old
so failure was assumed.
~ Total Attrition percentage was calculated by taking Total Mortality % + Transmitter Failure % + Lost Transmitter
% = Total Attrition %.
-64-
