Mount, Minerals North Section Supervisor
RE: ossible Illegal Mining in E1 Paso County
While out on inspections in Elbert County on October 30, 1995,
Christina Kamnikar and I noticed a gravel pit in E1 Paso County
which appears to be unpermitted. Joe Craven of Elbert County Road
& Bridge (Simla section) stated that E1 Paso County claimed to be
widening the road in this location, however, this site appeared to
be too large and too well-excavated to be a case of road cutting.
You may want someone from the south team check out this site.
To get to the site, take Elbert County Road 86 to Highway 24
through Simla, then go south on Road 125 for three miles (two miles
south of the Elbert/E1 Paso county line). The pit is next to the
west side of the road, on top of a hill. (See attached map)
COLORADO
