Drilling <br />for [he hole began Wednesday, <br />Fdb. 3. <br />By Saturday, Feb. 6, they had <br />drilled 150 feet. This hole will. be used <br />to pump water into the back of the <br />curtent longwall district to extin- <br />guish the fire. <br />Officials sealed portals to the <br />Sanborn Creek Mine Tuesday, Jan. <br />26, after finding high levels of car- <br />bon monoxide. Nobody was <br />injured when the mine foreman <br />found [he elevated levels of the gas <br />in a bleeder entry. <br />The Mine Safely and Health <br />Administration was dispatched [o <br />the site north of Somerset to evalu- <br />ate the situation. A command cen- <br />ter has been se[ up a[ the mine, <br />with a vehicle being brought in <br />from West Virginia. <br />Walt Wright, mine manager, <br />hopes to begin recovery of the <br />mine by Mazch 1. The 177 miners <br />employed by Oxbow Mining, Inc. <br />will be given a partial wage with <br />benefits through the month of <br />February. <br />
