Fisk and Nenningson, Durham & Richardson for Western Paving
Construction Company.
It is my understanding that your department will not raise additional ~luestions
beyond those stated in your letter of May 27, 1969.
The Engineering Report documents the answers to many of the questions Eiosed.
In this letter I will answer the questions submitted by you and refer i;o
pertinent portions of the engineering report.
(1) Channel treatment of the St. Vrain River.
The channel of the St. Vrain River will not be altered or affected ?r. any wa;;.
The applicant will leave a natural berm, 20 feet or more in width, around the
periphery of its gravel mining operations. Earth fill will be placed in a
low section of the flood plane of the St. Vrain. In addition, the south brancn
of the normal channel of the St. Vrain will be strengthened by the construct'on
of two rock revetments, each about 600 feet in length. If the St. Vrain
overflows its embankment, water may flow into the excavated area south of the
St. Vrain. The natural drainage at the present time is from northwest to south-
east. The drainage pattern after site development will likewise be from
northwest to southeast. As a further protection, Western Paving Construction
Company will construct two overflow spillways one on each side of the St. Vrain.
Each spillway will consist of a cut in the natural berm, 50 feet wide, ~vith a
depth not exceeding 5 feet. These spillways will provide a safe means ~f
returning to the St. Vrain. above downstream property owners, water that over-
flows the banks of the St. Vrain into the excavated area.
