feet of the proposed pit be contacted. Water Commissioner Robert Stahl (9378 WCR 2~, Ft.
Lupton, CO 80621, 303-857-0742) visited the site on January 19, 2000, and determined that
there were two permitted wells within 600 feet of the proposed pit. The owners of the two wells
were notified of the gravel pit well permit application by certified mail and no responses were
received.
Looking at a larger range, the figure in Attachment C shows the permitted wells and adjudicated
water rights within '/a mile of the Tanabe site. The exhibit was created from permitted well and
water right tabulations obtained from the State Engineer's Office. Although other wells may
exist in the area, they are not registered and permitted with the State Engineer's Office. The
extent of pit dewatenng affects is depicted at 1,000 feet from the pit boundary. Although the
estimated extent of pit dewatering is 750 feet, the 1,000-foot boundary includes an extra margin
of error for drawdown calculations. Many of the wells within the 1,000-foot boundary are either
owned or controlled by the applicant. Almost all of the remaining well owners within the
boundary were either contacted during the mine pit well permitting process with no response, or
have signed potential impact agreements with the applicant. Copies of these agreements are
included in Attachment D.
Further than 750 feet from the proposed pit, the applicant does not anticipate dewatering
operations at the site to impact the alluvial ground water use of well owners: Regardless, if
water levels drop in near by wells, due to dewater_ing at the Tanabe operation, such that the well
owners historic .water :production is ,injured, the, applicant will implemen4 ,one. br more of.the
- folltiwing measures, ;: However, if the well was not put •to benefcial;use.;prior,to.`mining, the.
:applicant should have no responsibility fo provide mitigation, ; ~ ;~: .
