' <br />• Ground disturbing activities shall be evaluated on a site specific <br />basis to reduce effects on northern goshawk, flammulated owl, levis' <br />woodpecker and loggerhead shrike nesting and foraging habitat. These <br />activities will be avoided or minimized in high quality late seral <br />aspen, coniferous and mountain shrub forested areas. <br />To avoid impacts to tiger salamander larvae, water withdrawn from any <br />ponds shall not at any time be drawn-down below a 2 foot depth, as <br />measured from the center of the ponds, with a minimum 6 foot <br />circumference. A screen 1/4 inch mesh shall be placed on hoses used <br />to withdraw water. <br />When additional findings or information of Region Two, Forest Service <br />sensitive species is discovered a new biological evaluation will be <br />written and mitigation co protect these species or their habitat will <br />be incorporated into the conditions of approval. <br />A limited operating period from Harch 1 through July 31 will be <br />imposed on any activities except subsidence in areas within one <br />quarter mile of goshawk nests determined to be active on any <br />activities if they could cause nesting failure or abandonment. The <br />boundaries of the Limited Operating Period (LOP) will be determined by <br />the District Lands and Minerals Staff Officer and the District <br />Wildlife Biologist. <br />• VI. RESIDUAL EFFECTS <br />The extraction and removal of 37 million tons of coal is .::e cnly <br />irreversible or irretrievable commitment of resources that _ould occur if <br />Alternative One i5 implemented. <br />Subsidence could occur over areas that have been mined, the amount of <br />surface that could be impacted is undetermined and is expected to be <br />insignificant.
