The ter^~~rary stockpiling of this material has
consumed mine area required to lower the pit floor to its ultimate
final level and configuration. The increased area requested in the
amendment will facilitate the development of some area of final
pit floor and sideslope which can then be reclaimed with excess
overburden and topsoil. This will then allow for the systematic
face advance and subsequent final surface reclamation.
It was determined advisable to modify the seed mixture after it
was learned that the crown vetch, which was specified by the Soil
Conservation Service, is best suited for acid soils. It does not
do well in basic soils common to much of western Colorado and
present at the Blue Pit. Local commercial seed suppliers
recommend that Sweet clover be substituted for the crown vetch,
and we herewith request this modification.
The seed mixture reported
temporary stabilization of
immediately available from
is developing in the areas
modified seed mixture will
Respectfully,
i
e~. samba
in the 1983 annual report was used for
topsoil stockpiles because it was
local suppliers.
