Long
Div~s~on Oireclor
I have looked into your request for information, dated June 2~, 2001, pertaining to the above-named permitted site.
Your letter included requests far information pertaining to other perntitted sites, +vhich will be handled in separate
letters. Your request was a timely response to my June 4, 2001, inspection, at which problems were found. Part of
the corrective actions is to update your records. It is hoped that the following information will assist you in that
endeavor. My numbered responses below correspond to the numbered questions in your letter.
I . You asked [hat copies of all applicable Wraps be sent. There are Rvo maps in my file, one being the 1978 permit
application map from Taminco, [nc. The other one is from Rick Van Horn (Energy Fuels Nuclear), 199, a
digitized version of many of the same features. 1 have enclosed a copy of the center portion of the 1978 Inap.
Yellow and orange have been added to match the original. The map legend makes the distinction between
"applicable affected areas" and "non-applicable areas." You will note that not all mapped mining features are
represented in color, +vhich begs the question: how are (orange-colored) "non-applicable areas" to be regarded
differently from the areas not colored? 1 assume that this and other questions are answered in the text of the permit
application. 1 do no[ have the that portion of the file in hard copy, and my microfiche images are horribly
incomplete. You stated that you have Van Horn's map, but I included copies of a couple portions of it with this
letter. All sites depicted on his map are shown in yellow ("applicable affected areas") on the 1978 map, but he
includes none of the orange sites ("non-applicable areas"). He did omit depiction of several sites in the Sunnyside
claim, though he included their acreage.
The eastern end of the 199 map depicts several sites on an additional group of claims, which are not on the 1973
map and actually not included in this permit area. This has apparenth~ caused a bit of confusion about this permit
and the one whose information has been so combined (M-1977-293). Those additional points in [he other permit
are the subject of a separate letter to you, and will no[ be treated herein.
2. if you can combine map data by transferring applicable features from the old maps to the newer base, 1 agree
that a much improved map product and less confusion will result. If your office has drat capability, please proceed
as you outlined. My only concern is the location and depiction (and ultimately, the accounting for reclamation
liablliq~) of all the necessary sites. 1 have compiled several lists, as shown belo+v, of the various sites, +vhich appear
on die maps. documents and inspection reports.
