Lochhead
E+ecuave Director
Michael B. Long
Dimswn D~recwr
As we discussed, the Foidel Creek mining operation has undermined
and subsequently damaged a short section of the Twentymile
Sandstone cliff outcrop located north of the facility area along
Routt County road #27. Although this phenomenon was not entirely
unexpected, in my opinion, the damage is much more extensive than
what was anticipated.
This damaged section of cliff is approximately 1300 feet from the
county road. As of June 24, 1994, no boulders have travelled down
slope more than approximately 300 feet. I have contacted Lou Gabos
at the Routt County Engineering Department and he informed me they
are comfortable with the situation and do not feel there is a
safety hazard due to the distances involved.
However, since I have very limited experience with this type of
hazard, I am requesting that a member of our staff, who has
experience with rockfall and subsidence, visit the site, document,
and evaluate this public safety issue.
I will be out of the office until the 12th of July. If I could
arrange a site visit sometime after that with a geotechnical type
that would be greatly appreciated.
STATE OF COLORADO
Thank you for your assistance. If you have questions let me know.
