Lung
Urvivnn Durrini
RE: Eagle 5 & 9 Mines, (C-81-044) Offsite Mitigation Potentials with BLM Projects
Dear Mr. Terrell Johnson:
During my inspection of the Eagle 5 and 9 Mines on July 29, 195'3 we discussed the
potentials for conducting offsite mitigation measures by Cyprus-Empire assisting the U.S.
Bureau of Land Reclamation with reseeding the Sunbeam/Maybell burn. Although the
Division is not opposed to the concept, agreement with BLM plans and concurrence with
the Division of Wildlife is critical.
I contacted Mr. John Husband, Area Manager of U.S. Bureau of Land Management Little
Snake Management Area. He said BLM would be willing to consider this type of proposal
on other projects. Due to time constraints and the critical need to seed the burned area this
fall Mr. Husband felt this particular project would not be a candidate for this kind of
cooperative effort. He said that the BLM would be willing to entertain future proposals that
meet with BLM plans and goals. Adequate advance planning would be necessary to assure
concurrence with the various agencies involved, Division of Wildlife, Livision of Minerals
and Geology, BLM, and any other affected agencies.
Although this particular mitigation idea does not appear practical for the BLM, I welcome
the innovative idea and am open to discussing future proposals with you. Feel free to
contact me if you have questions.
Sincerely,
~~
Janet . BI s
Recla atio Specialist
m:\coal\jhb\C81044\offsite
