It is further my understanding that the <br />purpose of this hearing is to determine if Basin Resources' permit <br />to continue mining coal in this county should be revoked. <br />The purpose of this letter is to state unequivocally that Basin <br />Resources has committed no criminal violations of Colorado Statutes <br />in this jurisdiction. Rather, Basin Resources has been a model <br />corporate citizen of Las Animas County. It's management and <br />employees have been sensitive to the needs of the environment while <br />balancing the corporate interests. Basin Resources has been active <br />in this community and is vital to the continued economic growth of <br />this county. There have been no complaints made against the <br />management of this company regarding violations of criminal or <br />environmental laws. <br />I sincerely hope that your review of Basin Resources activities in <br />Las Animas County will substantiate my office's opinion of this <br />company. I strongly urge you to make a finding that Basin <br />Resources has not violated the conditions of it's permit to conduct <br />mining operations in Las Animas County. <br />
