_, ~ ~ j
March 28, 1978
Mining Plan
Mining of the entire tract is expected to take place over a period of between
25 and 36 years. The timetable cited below reflects the maximum time expected
to complete each phase. Depth of material ranges between apparently 20 and
50 feet. Phase I through VII will be mined with a dragline, while Phases II-A
through X-A will be mined with a dredge due to deeper deposits; mining by
these methods will not require de-watering.
Prior to actual mining, topsoil will be stripped utilizing scrapers, dozer
and frontend loader. Topsoil averages approximately one foot across the
permit area. Initially, topsoil will necessarily require stockpiling until
e sufficiently large area is mined out, allowing for new topsoil being strip-
ped from one area to be immediately utilized in backfilling and re-topsoiling
a previously mined out area.
As mining proceeds through each phase, final slopes are maintained as close as
possible -ehind mining by maintaining slopes on native materials and back-
filling with non-marketable sands, silts, clays and other oversize and undersize
materials. This is an integral part of mining, as these materials would other-
wise pose a disposal problem.
Phase I
Topsoil will be stripped from the area and will be stockpiled in the
office area. It is expected that this soil will probably not be
utilized elsewhere in reclamation, but will be graded over the office
area upon removal of the office and scales. After topsoil is removed
the area will be excavated using a dragline. A 15 foot wide :'ribbon"
of material will be left undisturbed between the excavated area and [he
water in abandoned gravel Pit "C" as indicated on the maps. The mined
sand and gravel will be run through the plant located at Plant Site Ill.
The operation of Phase I is expected to take 2 years.
Phase II
Topsoil will be atxipped and be utilized to re-enforce the dike along
the Cache La Poudre River and to backfill the west edge of Phase I. A
dragline will be used to excavate the sand and gravel; material will be
processed at Plant Site Ill. It will take approximately 2 years to
complete Phase II.
Phase III
Topsoil will be stripped and used to backfill along the south and
west edges of Phase II and to re-enforce the dike along the Cache
La Poudre River. The dragline will be used to excavate material
from Phase III. The plant will be moved to Plant Site 1i2. Opera-
tions are expected to last for 3 years.
