Upon <br />visiting the Blue Flame mine site with you the following conclusions can he <br />made. <br />1) Three hazardous openings are present on site renuiring work <br />2) The abatement technique chosen is a graded hackfill. The Inactive <br />Mine Reclamation Program's specifications for graded hackfill op- <br />erations include: <br />a) removal of vegetation on access routes to be stockpiled and <br />used later as a "mulch", <br />b) initial excavation of the edits to provide sufficient room for <br />riprap placement ~ <br />c) riprap <2' minimum diameter) placement back into the openings . <br />followed by partial collapse of the portal areas with inter- <br />mittent compaction achieved by making repetitive passes over <br />the hackfill with the hackfill machinery, <br />d) final placement ^f soil material suitable for plant growth 12" <br />deep over the hackfilled areas to blend in with the surrounding <br />topography, <br />e) ripping to a depth of 6" (24" maximum centers) over areas <br />where construction activities have created excessive compaction <br />including topsoil borrow areas, <br />f) installation of 6'long, 3" diameter steel pipe identification <br />monuments set 5' beneath grade (12" above grade) over each <br />423 Conlonnial Duildin{7, 1313 Shormnn Strool Denver, Colorndo 80203 Toi.
