Pond Reclamation Description
In order to achieve the desired outcome, the reclamation contractor will undertake the following
steps in completing reclamation at each pond:
The pond will be dewatered, if necessary, to below the invert elevation of the corrugated metal
pipe dewatering device, which is generally in place at each pond. Any water pumped from a pond
will be passed through appropriate sediment treatment device, such as silt fence or straw bales,
prior to being discharged into receiving streams.
The corrugated metal pipe dewatering device will be excavated from the embankment. The sides
of the excavation will be no steeper than 2H:1 V. The slope of the base of the excavation will
mirror the gradient of the base of the corrugated metal pipe dewatering device, prior to its
removal.
Excavated dirt will be utilized on the outside face of the embankment, on the top of the
embankment, or it may be used as topsoil substitute on the inside slopes of the ponds.
The cut created during excavation of the corrugated metal pipe dewatering device will be used as
the principle spillway after reclamation is complete. Therefore, it will be lined with native rock rip
rap along the base and partially up the sides, as appropriate.
Wetlands species appropriate to site conditions will be planted aoound the mazgins of each pond.
Revegetation of the pond embankments and of any other adjacent areas disturbed as a result of
reclamation construction will be accomplished following the completion of construction activities.
STORM WATER MANAGEMENT CONTROLS
No mining, milling or processing is being conducted at this site. Reclamation construction is the
only activity occurring at this site. Minimization of sediment delivery to adjacent streams as a
result of reclamation activities is the primary focus of this SWMP. As reclamation construction at
each pond area is anticipated to be similar, the Storm Water Management Controls to be utilized
at each area are also anticipated to be nearly identical. Topographic conditions may dictate that
differing methods be implemented at any one pond
GENERAL
Most reclamation contractors use heavy equipment requiring periodic maintenance and fueling.
Division contractors are required to place berms around any fuel tanks that they bring onto the
site. Used oil is contained in a designated area, and is transported off-site for proper disposal. All
project areas aze kept in a neat and workman-like condition.
Pond Reclamation
Any water which is discharged from a pond prior to initiating reclamation construction will be
passed through silt fence or through straw bales prior to being discharged into an adjacent
receiving stream.
