Long
February ~4, 1994
Page ]
accomplished. We also discussed Basin's ooncept of an approach to
Lae Animas County requiring that persons seeking building permits
in subsidence prone arses Till out a supplement that would initiate
contact with Basin. Bush contact would allow a discussion between
Basin aaq tha•landowner on possible ways to mitigate the potential
!or subsidence flamage. We. indicated that Basin would consider
various proposals to assist landowners in those mitigation efforts.
lLr. Hernandez stated that some landowners have vrittan to the
Division, and that one person called the Division and stated that
he had been told that the goal under a certain lot wns not thick
enough for mining. Raton Wast indicated it is not providing that
type o! information to potential purchasers. Wa agree that we will
have lurthar discussions on sharing of information.
Basin understands that Raton West likely will request a public
hearing' on the permit renewal request by the deadline of
February 25. I!, after•furi+her review of the application and
lurthor meeting(s) it required, Raton West is satisfied that•no
hearing is necessary, we understand it may withdraw the request
prior to the hearing. Basin understands that the hearing, if haid,
would be on March 2]-24.
Pleaoe call~ma if you have any questions regarding this
letter.
our v iy,
ey K.
