Pikeview Quarry Environmental Assessment
Page 34
Daily traffic count information from the Public Works Traffic Engineering (City of
Colorado ;iprings) for the Allegheny Dtive and Centennial Blvd are limited to a few day:;
(Table 3.5 ). This is because these roads do not constitute major traffic routes (e.g.
highways) in the county and in the city, where constant or more frequent traffic surveys take
place. Therefore, these data aze not representative of the traffic on these two roads, but can
be used as an indicator of the daily volume of traffic during a weekday.
Table 3.5 -Traffic Count on Allegheny Drive and
Centennial Blvd, Colorado Springs
Site Date Day of Traffic Count
Week
East Bound & West Bound Allegheny September 28, 1992 Monday 1,199
Dr. East of Split Rock Dr.
Allegheny Dr., West of Centennial May 9, 2000 Tuesday 3,750
Blvd
East Bound R West Bound Allegheny May 22, 2000 Monday 2,312
Dt., West of Native Cir. This housing development is
situated a short distance east of the quarry. The traffic count data show a significant
increase in traffic in Allegheny Drive in the past 8 years, most likely due to increasing
residential development in the area.
The traffic from the quarry then follows through Allegheny to Centennial Road, where
residential development is also occurring at increasing rates. Therefore, traffic noise
associated with the mining activities will affect an increasing number of residents moving
close to the quarry and its access roads.
The truck traffic from and to the Pikeview Quarry in the last 5 yeazs (Table 3.6)
represents ] 0 to 16% of total traffic on Allegheny Drive 14. In 1992 it represented
approximately 34%. Pikeview Quarry traffic represents about 1 % of traffic on Centennial
Blvd (1995). In 1993 it represented 3-4%.
14 From traffic count data for 2000
Hydrosphere Resource C°nsultan6. 1002 Walnut Street Suile 200, Boulder, CO 80302

L

1
1

1

1
1
1
