Mining would continue for about 10 years and reclamation would continue
until 2 years afrer the conclusion of the mining operations. Current operations include 20 to
25 employees, working Monday through Saturday from lam to Spm.
After reclamation, it is anticipated that the steep slopes on private land (quarry back
walls) would become open space. The primazy post-mining land use identified in the
proposed plan for that azea is wildlife habitat. The applicant is considering the reclamation
of the lower (flat) azeas of the mine for light industrial use but no definite development plan
exists at the present time.
Under the proposed action, the applicant would mine and reclaim the site
concurrently. The reclamation on National Forest System lands would be implemented
concurrently with production, for about 3 years. Both base and enhanced reclamation would
be implemented on private lands. The table shown below (Table 2.1) summarizes the
proposed mining and reclamation operations schedules. Mining and reclamation operations
shown in this table include both the proposed (west) and current mining and reclamation.
Table 2.1 -Timetables for Mining and Reclamation Operations
Phase Year Mining io Area Mined Acres Reclamation in Area
1 1-2 West 13 to 26
2 2-4 West & Current On-going West & Current
3 5-12 Current NA Current
Source: Castle Concrete Company, 2000a
Interpretative photos of the quarry under Alternative B aze shown in Appendix F
(Figures F.3 and F.4.)
Castle Concrete conducted a survey of the proposed site and developed a detailed plan
for mining and reclamation.
