The
seasonality and forage characteristics of the vegetative species appear suitable for the post-
mining land use of grazing and wildlife habitat. The pond will remain as a permanent part
of the reclamation and provides a valued alternative livestock watering source during part
of the yeaz. Cattle have occasionally grazed in the yazd area surrounding the pond. Signs of
overgrazing were not evident during the Division's bond release inspection. Although no
wildlife were seen during the inspection, there was evidence the area is visited by deer and
small mammals. Vegetation has locally been intensely browsed on slopes that are too steep
for cattle. Hoof prints and droppings were found on the site. Other wildlife that has regularly
been seen on past inspections include: small mammals (rabbits, mice, and voles), raptors
(hawks and eagles}, and various waterfowl and small birds. No weed problems or significant
baze areas were found. The vegetative cover on reclaimed azeas appears to be preventing rill
Apex No. 2 Mine Page 10 January 24, 2003
Phases I, II, and III Bond Release
