<br />Mr. Robert Liddle -2- May 15, 1984 <br />flow analysis to date does not balance well with the quantities of <br />water being pumped from the mines, it is our belief that very little <br />definitive information will come from the continued mine in-flow <br />studies. Despite limited information, we agree that it makes sense <br />to continue the studies. It is now apparent that the meaningful <br />data in regard to validity of potential claims for downstream water <br />rights will come from making calculations as quantitatively as <br />possible for the difference in flow in the creeks upstream and down- <br />stream in both North and Middle Thompson Creeks. Some assumptions <br />will obviously have to be made to account for evaporation and water <br />consumption by the vegetation in that area. Despite this, it is <br />believed that the sources of water in the mines at Snowmass will be <br />known well enough to design a final augmentation plan. <br />With the current snowpack at 90x above normal, we believe that <br />there is no risk of calls for water for this year. Assuming that we <br />learn from our recent design mistakes on weir installation, and have <br />the four weirs successfully operating for the 1985 season, we request <br />that we be allowed to delay filing a final augmentation plan with the <br />State Water Engineer until summer 1985 water flow data can be obtained. <br />Snowmasa Coal Company is prepared at this time to take responsi- <br />bility for pumping into North Thompson Creek below Mine I11, a minimum <br />of 17,000 gallons per day during any time that valid calls are in <br />effect downstream.
