• OVERBURDEN REPORT
pH All samples tested ranged in value from 6.5-7.9, Wyoming
Guideline No. 3 indicates this has a good soil suitability
rating.
EC All samples tested reported values less than 4, Wyoming
Guideline No. 3 indicates this has a good soil suitability
rating.
Sat % All samples tested ranged from 38%-55%, Wyoming Guideline
No. 3 indicates this has a good-fair soil suitability
rating.
SAR All samples tested reported values less than 6, Wyoming
Guideline No. 3 indicates this has a good soil suitability
rating.
Nitrate This does appear to be a problem as N can be easily added
Nitrogen to the overburden as needed.
Phosphorus All samples tested fell within the 0-7 ppm recommendations
contained in the Guide to Fertilizer Recommendations in
Colorado. It is anttctpate t at at ttme o see tng 3
s. acre of P 0 will be added to the overburden. It does
h
i
ill b
bl
~
i
• not appear t
ous pro
em.
a
ih
s w
e a ser
Potassium Of all the samples tested only one had a concentration less
than 60 ppm, and that sample had a concentration of 56 ppm.
It appears that potassium will not be a problem.
Texture Of all the samples only two reported a SIC texture class
(also which indicated this has a poor soil suitability. All the
addresses others were either CL, L-CL, or L, which have a fair (CL)
% sand, or good (L) soil suitability. Given the amount of mixing
silt, clay) that will occur during removal and replacement, it does not
appear that texture will be a problem, Refer to Wyoming
Guideline No. 3 for texture classification and rating.
Aluminum Munshower (1983) advised that aluminum does not to be
analyzed unless the overburden pH is less than 5. This is
due to the fact that the presence of exchangeable aluminum
is very limited in environments with a pH greater than 5.
Given the pH of the overburden (6.9 and 6.5) and the low
concentration of aluminum (<0.2 ppm) it is not anticipated
that aluminum toxicity will be a problem.
Copper The samples in which this parameter was analyzed were from
depths of 30"-36". This material is not proposed as a
plant growth media as the top 6" of the overburden will be
removed and stockpiled for reclamation use. Therefore,
• copper toxicity should not be a problem.
