Walker
PERMIT NUMBER: C-1982-056
ACTION: new leases
DATE: December 22, 2004
DISCUSSION: Ole Olsen (Olsen) called Byron Walker (Walker) to let Walker know that he was
working on the Environmental Assessment for new coal leases submitted to BLM by Twentymile
Coal Company. Olsen talked about impacts to flood plains. Walker advised Olsen that there was
literature in the Permit Application Package (PAP) that addressed probable impacts to alluvial valley
floors, hydrology, and renewable resources. There are also annual hydrology reports, semi-annual
subsidence reports, and monthly inspection reports on file. Walker advised Olsen that the PAP and
reports are on file at the mine site and at the offices of the Division of Minerals and Geology herein
Denver. In response to questions by Olsen, Walker replied that Walker had no observed noticeable
subsidence impacts on upland steeper gradients of intermittent or ephemeral streams, but that
impacts were visible in the valley floor of Fish Creek (some ponding of former stream meanders) and
on the rail line (lighter color of ballast where the tracks had been raised). Olsen was aware of Jerry
Nettleton and Brian Watterson as contacts at the Foidel Creek Mine.
DISTRIBUTION:
Cc: Ole Olsen, BLM; Jerry Nettleton, Twentymile; Dan Hernandez, CDMG
Files: C:\bgw\My Documents\Foidel Creek\misc\blm to new leases.doc
Scan: C-1982-056, misc
Office of Office of Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Active and Inactive Mines Geological Survey
