Box 616 Orvision DueUnr
Meeker, CO 81641
Re: Meeker Area Mines (Permit No. C-81-032) Weed Control Concerns
Dear Mr. Jensen:
The Division would like to thank you for voicing your concerns regarding weed control
issues at the Meeker Area Mines and accompanying me on an inspection of the site on
September 26, 1994.
As we discussed on site I researched the permit and history of the ongoing weed control
once I returned to the Denver office this week. As we discussed on the phone on October
6, 1994 I am forwarding a copy of the inspection report on to you as well.
As a result of my further investigation I do feel the mine operator, Enron Coal Company,
should continue to work with you and the Rio Blanco Weed Association on areas of noxious
weed infestations within the disturbed area boundary. I do consider some of the locations
we looked at exploration sites and outside the operator's permitted disturbance area. Please
keep in mind that the Division's concerns regarding weed control extends to species
considered noxious or poisonous and may not extend to species solely considered
undesirable. I am enclosing a list of species the Division considers noxious.
The areas of concern I consider ongoing troublesome spots include the trailer pad area, the
parking area, the storage yard and former topsoil stockpile area, and along the access road
between these sites. The operator will receive a copy of my inspection report and these
concerns. I hope you and the operator can continue to manage the weed situation on these
sites.
