PERENNIAL WEEDS
Herbicide Recommendations
(IV-3)
The following recommendations are brief summaries of the product labels.
The labels should be read thoroughly for detailed information on the specific
products.
Banvel (dicamba) ~ ~' ~ V /
'„
SPOT APPLICATIONS and SETtlEEN CROPPING SYSTEMS: Use 1 to 2 lbs. of dicamba
per acre (1 to 2 qts or 1 1/2 to 3 tbls. per 1000 sq. ft) for control of several
deep rooted perennial weeds (see label for list of weeds controlled). Apply any-
time after crop harvest, when weeds are actively growing and prior to a killing
frost. Banvel will usually not kill perennial weed seedlings that germinate 1 or
2 years after treatment. Banvel usually does not injure most perennial grass
species at recommended rates.
TANK MIX TREATMENTS: Banvel may be applied as a tank mix with 2,4-D amine
or LV ester formulations, also with Roundup for control of grasses. A 1:2 mix
of Banvel/2,4-D is commonly used. For field bindweed, Canada thistle, poverty weeds
and others, tank mix 1 to 4 pints of Banvel with 2 to 4 pints of Roundup per acre.
ROTATIONAL CROPS: Corn and sorghum may be planted in the spring following
_ applications of Banvel the previous year. Wheat may be planted in the fall or spring
following applications. Crop injury may occur if the interval between application
and planting is less than 45 days per pint of product used per acre, excluding days
when ground is frozen. Do not plant broadleaf crops such as alfalfa, beans, peas,
potatoes, or sugarbeets, into treated areas for two years after application.
Annual and biennial weeds can be controlled with lower rates of Banvel.
See page 4 for feeding restrictions and intervals between treatment and graz-
ing dairy animals. There is no waiting period between treatment and grazing for
animals, other than dairy animals when Banvel is used alone.

(3/82).
