on both the reclaimed and reference areas were dominated by perennial grasses. The <br />1996 data showed that the reclaimed area had higher cover of perennial grasses while <br />all the reference areas exhibited a higher cover of perennial forts. <br />5.3 Production <br />Vegetation production measured in the 1996 study is shown in Table 2. The <br />reclaimed area exhibited higher total production than any of the reference azeas for <br />that year. Production of perennial grasses on the reclaimed area dominated the <br />reference study areas sampled. All of the reference azeas exhibited higher production <br />of perennial forts than the reclaimed azea. <br />5.4 Shrub and Half-Shrub Density <br />Table 3 shows the shrub and half-shrub density data collected for the reclaimed <br />area. A total of 443 stems per acre were recorded which is considerably higher than <br />the current standard of 200 stems per acre. Big sagebrush (A~emesia tridentata) was <br />the dominant shrub followed by Snowberry (Svnhoricamos occiden alisl and Silver <br />sagebrush (~3p~.
