Wildlife and Related Environmental Values <br />Section 4.6 of Vol. IV of the permit application discusses the protection offish, wildlife and <br />related environmental values. <br />Wildlife habitat is a planned post-mining land use. The applicant has selected appropriate <br />plant species and distributions to benefit fish and wildlife. (4.18(4•)(1)). <br />XIV. Protection of Underground Mining <br />The Division previously approved a variance to allow surface coal. mining activities to be <br />conducted within 500 feet of an active or abandoned underground mine. The Empire <br />Mine extends underneath the west end of Trapper Mine. More thai 800 feet of vertical <br />separation exists between Trapper's surface pit floors (now reclaired) and Empire's <br />underground workings. Trapper will not be conducting any further mining on the west <br />end; the azea has been fully reclaimed. (4.19(1) and 4.22.4(1)). <br />XV. Subsidence Control <br />No specific approvals aze granted to the applicant under this section. <br />XVI. Concurrent Surface and Underground Mining <br />No specific approvals aze granted to the applicant under this section. <br />XVII. Ooerations on Alluvial Vallex loors <br />Operations on alluvial valley floors aze discussed in Section 4.8.4 of Vol. IV of the permit <br />application. <br />Criteria for Alluvial Valley Floor Determination <br />Table 1 (on the following page of this findings document) summarizes selected <br />chazacteristics of the lazgest stream valleys in the vicinity of the Trapper Mine. If any of <br />those alluvial valleys meet the following criteria that are numbered (1) and either (2) or (3), <br />then the Division would designate [he drainage an "alluvial valley floor" (AVF): <br />(1) The alluvial valley contains an "unconsolidated stream-laid holding stream" <br />[Section 1.04(10)] which, by definition, is "greater than 3 feet in bankfull width <br />and greater than 0.5 feet in bankfull depth" (Section 1.04(142)]. <br />Trapper Mine 28 May i3, 1998 <br />
