2 10 Air Monitoring
A. Particulate Monitoring
Continuous air sampling is conducted at three locations for t}~e
determination of ambient particulate radionuclide concentration.
Two of these locations are onsit.e, Meer the west property boundary
(206) and near the northeast property boundary (20S), while the
third location is offaite on Pine Ridge Road (204). The reaulta for
the environmental particulate sampling at these locations for thn
reporting period are provided on the following pages.
The collected data from the environmental air sampling locations
for the reporting period are consistent with historical patterns
and are well below regulatory limitations at less than 1~ MPC.
The internal audit committee has expressed concern about the
suitability of using "perimeter" air-sampling location 206 as the
basis for the site background level for the airborne pathway. The
concern is based upon the relatively close proximity of location
206 to the primacy ventilation exhaust point for the underground
mine workings and the resultant elevation in "background" from
material exhausted from the mine. Location 206 was originally
chosen as the site background level due to the very high
probability that the location was not influenced by the .site
licensed facilities and thus could provide comparative information
in determining offsite dose assessment to the nearest receptor
from the licensed facilities. Relocation of the sample location to
avoid the influence of the mine exhaust is under investi~~ation.
