Production was primarily <br />perennial graminoids with western wheatgrass averaging 115.3 g/m2. Other <br />important producers basically corresponded to cover values: Agassiz <br />bluegrass 113.1 g/m21, green needlegrass 19.4 g/m21, sleepy grass 15.5 <br />g/m21, blue grams 15.4 g/m21, and sand dropseed 12.0 g/m21. Forb produc- <br />tion averaged 3.7 g/m2 end annual graminoid production was only 0.1 g/m2. <br />Broom snakeweed, a subshrub, averaged 0.3 g/m2. See Table 4. <br />Shrub Densit <br />Total shrub density in the Meadow vegetation type was low, <br />averaging only 0.3 shrubs/50 m2 or about 23 shrubs/acre. ISee Table 5.1 <br />Rubber rabbitbrush was the only shrub present In this vegetation type. <br />Average height far this shrub generally ranged from about 50 to 120 cm. <br />Trees <br />Because very few trees occurred in this vegetation type, each <br />individual was noted by species. The majority of these occurred along <br />the intermittent drainage of Delagua Canyon. These included 33 box- <br />elders (Ac.en neQundvl, 15 narrowleaf cottonwoods IPvpu.lua anyuiti~v~livl, <br />12 plains cottonwoods IPvpu.lue daltvidv.~), 9 elms lU1mu~ sp.l, end 2 <br />ponderosa pines IPinu~ pvndv~o~vl. The elm trees were assumed to have <br />been planted by residents of the old town of Delagua earlier in the <br />century. <br />~_ 3.2.2 Pinyon-dunlper Woodland Complex <br /> The Pinyon-Juniper Woodland Complex occurred on moderately <br /> steep slopes and ridge tops of the permit area, occupying about 153 acres <br /> of affected area end a total of f145 acres of the permit area. Soils were <br /> shallow and relatively rocky. The dominant species in this vegetation <br />- type was pinyon pine lPinu~ edu/F~l while one-seed juniper (rfun,ipeau4 <br /> mvnvepeiunal was subdominant. Two phases were Included in this vege- <br /> tation type: an oakbrush phase occurred on north- and northeast-facing <br /> slopes, occupying about 3 acres of affected area and 104 acres of the <br /> permit area, and a ponderosa pine/Douglas-fir IP~eudv.t~wsv menl~.ie4iil <br /> phase occurred on the higher ridge tops in the southeast corner of the <br /> permit area occupying about 44 acres of the permit area, but none in the <br />~_ affected area. <br /> These phases were small in area end contained elements <br /> of the pinyon-juniper woodland. The oakbrush phase exhibited a lower <br /> tree density and a more strongly developed shrub layer. The ponderosa <br /> pine/Douglas-fir phase was evidenced by a relatively closed canopy of <br /> tree cover of various species. The entire Pinyon-Juniper Woodland Compler <br /> was sampled as one unit. <br />-(3- <br />
