Mr. William C. York-Feirn 4
Mr. Freirich contends that he "observed unusually high levels of water in the creek." I have
carefully checked my personal records to determine where I was on or about July 1, 1991,
when Mr. Freirich was experiencing his initial encounter with "large volumes of unexplained
water." I am attaching to this letter copies of several pages from my passport which indicates
that on June 12, 1991, 1 was permitted to land in Ireland by the Immigration Office at the
Dublin Airport. My passport reveals that I passed through U.S. Immigration at the Shannon
Airport on my return on July 10, 1991. A copy of my Delta Airlines boarding pass is also
included, and it shows that I flew from Dublin to Atlanta on July 10. This is ten days after
Mr. Freirich contends that the Cash mine caused unusually high levels of water to inundate
Summerville. Inasmuch as the Cash mine pump was disconnected down in the mine shaft
during this period, I want to assure you that there is absolutely no way that this pump was
switched on during my absence. The only keys to the mine shaft were left in the care of my
then seventy-two year old father, Charles A. Steen. He has told me that be did not descend
the 125 foot ladder in the shaft's manway to turn on the pump switch, and I believe him.
As to my exact location on or about July 1, 1991, 1 am also attaching to this letter a
copy of one of my credit card statements. It clearly shows that I drew $161.75 US dollars at
the Allied Irish Bank in Armagh, County Armagh, Northern Ireland on July 1, 1991. Having
ascertained my exact location of July 1, 1991, I was able to locate a photograph taken of
myself by my Irish amanuensis on the Green in the center of Armagh. I think that even Mr.
Freirich will concede that I do not appear to have my hand on the Cash mine pump switch in
this photograph. From Armagh, my Irish friend and I drove along the Blackwater River and
through the Sperrin Mountains to Limavady and on to Derry. I was truly far and away from
Gold Hill and Summerville.
I hope that this information and the supporting evidence that I am offering you will
help the Mined Land Reclamation Division staff to properly evaluate the false allegations made
by Mr. Freirich. Thank you for considering my refutation of these unfounded charges,
Respectfully,
A. _2 a
Mark A. Steen
Gold Hill Ventures
Enclosures
CC.
