PO Box 266 <br />Nucla, CO 81424 <br />September 6, 1988 <br />Letter to the Editor: <br />In response to an individual's attempt to cast doubt on <br />whether or not I felt shock waves from blasts; or whether or <br />not I deserved reparations for the damages to my home. <br />My request for reparations was heard and acted upon by <br />an official of Peabody Coal Co. The decision was based on <br />these facts. <br />1. I felt and heard the shock waves from the source of <br />the Peabody blast. <br />2. I have a pre-blast survey made by Peabody. <br />3. Shock waves from the blast source to my residence <br />is geographically sound. <br />4. Close inspection by a Peabody official awarded <br />reparations to repair the damages. m'+~ ~""•'~O"+'~ <br />As to the other remarks made by employees of Peabody in <br />reference to Senior, citizens, a minister, and myself; these <br />were out of order. They had no influence on decisions that <br />Land Mining and Reclamation will make nor in my opinion will <br />it help the image Peabody Coal wishes to portray. <br />In reference to the remark that Peabody Coal is a <br />"huge" mining company, the biggest in the world; this began <br />to hit home. What is Peabody's intention? After buying out <br />or forcing and buying out ranchers and land owners for <br />exploitation and aggrandizement, what then? It has already <br />
