Governor Fretl R Banta. Division Director The Division has continued to evaluate its options regarding initiation of reclamation at Section 24 of the G.E.C. Strip, following our February 3, 1992 meeting. We have decided to initiate reclamation at the Orphan Pit, designated on the enclosed map as Area seven, in 1992. The staff is currently preparing a request for proposals, the first step in the State project contracting process. Dependent upon the costs involved, we may proceed to issue additional requests for proposals regarding further reclamation of areas two, three, five, six, eight, nine, ten and fourteen. Piease note that reclamation of these remaining areas will be assessed after a final cost of the Orphan Pit reclamation is established. This is due to our continuing concern that funds Sufficient to reclaim the East Pit are available to the extent possible. To the best of our knowledge, other disturbed areas within Section 24 are not eligible for reclamation with the forfeited G.E.C. bond. The other areas were apparently disturbed by another operator prior to the enactment of the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act.
