Page 50 describes the techniques that will be
used during sampling. I have the following questions regarding this
section:
1. It is unclear what is to be considered a production sample
unit. I propose to randomly locate five 1/4 meter squared production
plots along each of the five transects. Because they are randomly
located, each plot may be considered a sampling unit. Thus a minimum of
25 sample units will be collected.
2. While woody plant density techniques are described, no woody
stem density standard applies (as described on page 51). Thus, no woody
stem density data will be collected.
3. The herbaceous production sampling paragraph on page 50 does
not describe the categories into which clipped materials will be
placed. The following categories are proposed:
1. Perennial grasses
2. Annual grasses
3. Perennial forbs
4. Annual forbs
5. Noxious weeds
I am planning to begin sampling this coming Monday, August 5.
Please do not hesitate to contact me at 733-5368 regarding the three
questions noted above.
Sincerely,
//! d~ ~ ~ 9~/ ~
Matthew S.
