III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Jan. 1, 2002
20501 Highway 12
Weston, CO 81091
Dan Hernandez
Colo. Dev. Of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman St.
Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Deaz Mr. Hernandez:
RECEIVED
JAN 14 2002
Division o! Minerals 8 Geo;xiv
Several things concern me about the operations of Lorencito Coal Company.
Photo number 1 shows a frozen Purgatory River, the dark area in the river is
not water, but is coal dust on top of the ice. This photo was taken Dec. 11,
2001, about 200 yards east of M.P. 53 on Highway 12. The shuttle train
loading area is in the background. This fugitive dust was carried downstream
later in the day. Because this area is next to highway 12, there are other
witnesses besides myself to this particulaz incident.
Photo # 2 shows a man involved in the blasting doing a seismograph of a
blast. He is located in the school yazd. Because he is on public property, I
would like a copy of all blasting logs that have been taken. Also any records
of seismograph malfunctions. My home has suffered violent shaking from
these blasts.
Photo 3 shows a cloud of poisonous nitrogen gases hugging the ground near
Primero School during a temperature inversion. Clouds like this have
enveloped the school yard and homes nearby. I will send more photos when I
get them developed.
Sincerely,
Ron Leef
