<br /> <br />~/.~PYI <br />Coal Company <br />Mr. Daniel Mathews <br />Division of Minerals and Geology <br />101 South 3rd, Suite 301 <br />Grand Junction, CO 81501 <br />Seneca Coal Cora <br />September 26, 2003 <br />RE: Well Abandonment at the Seneca IIW Mine (Permit C-82-057) <br />Dear Mr. Mathews, <br />Attached please find the water monitor well abandonment forms for <br />Wells GW-S2W-4W (Wadge coal), -4WC (Wolf Creek coal), -40V1 <br />{Wadge overburden) and -40V2 (Wadge overburden.), which were <br />abandoned on August 13, 2003. <br />These wells needed to be abandoned due to safety reasons because <br />of their proximity to the highwall. Also, since these wells were <br />near the top of the mining area, they were not providing <br />sufficient information of the water bearing zones downgradient of <br />mining. SCC will submit a revision to your Division this winter <br />to modify the hydrologic monitoring plan to include the addition <br />of three replacement wells in the Wadge overburden, Wadge coal <br />and Wolf Creek coal.
