2.0 Mining and Oil attd Gas
to 535 feet bgs. During the surface methane survey in November 2000, 20 psi of pressure was still indicated
in the 8 5/8-inch annulus. Monitoring with an FID indicated the pressure of organic vapors within the annulus
of the 8 5/8-inch and 5 1/2-inch annuli. No irregularities were noted during the drilling of the 28-I ].
Both wells were plugged and abandoned on October 9 and 10, 2000, by GeoMet. During plugging, soils
surrounding the well casing were monitored with an FID. According to the Colorado Oi] and Gas
Conservation Commission (COGCC) environmental specialist who was present during the plugging, no gas
was detected during excavation of soils near the wel I heads. Methane was reported in the casing (between the
8 5/8-inch and 5 1/2-inch annuli) with pressure of 20 psi. No gas was detected near the abandoned wells.
Correspondence from the COGCC dated October 25, 2000 stated, "The gas wells are definitely not the source
of the methane seep." A copy of this correspondence is included in Appendix A.
I 292-Meth_(Z 14 04) doc/July 14 2004 2-2
