Memo to Susan'McCannon
Third Inspection of Tatum Residence
page 3

Careful examination of this photograph corroborates the absence of the breezeway
and roof between the house and the garage. Further, careful examination of the
kitchen end of the south wall discerns that the south wall originally ended at the
location of the dining room chimney, locatable by a one-foot cubic adobe chimney
which protrudes above the roof line. None of the modern kitchen, underlain by the
excavated concrete basement, .appears to have existed in the thirties. This
perspective also allows the viewer to scale the dimensions of the two story eastern
portion of the building versus the western one story portion of the building. Each
section is roughly the same east-west length, which corroborates the absence of
the modern kitchen and basement western-most twenty-foot portion of the
structure.
Dr. Craft's Opinion
Dr. Craft used his portable computer to demonstrate to Mr. Gerity the proper
manipulation of the SDPS computer program. He also responded at length to Mr.
Gerity's questions and suppositions regarding possible phenomena responsible for
the damage effecting the Tatum's house. At the conclusion of their discussion Dr.
Craft informed Carl Gerity of his opinion. Jesse concluded that the damage to the
Tatum's residence was not the result of mine-related subsidence.
cc: Mike Rosenthal, OSM
Randy Price
Joe Dudash
Mike Long, Director
Doc: M:\COAL\JAP\TATUM3.INS
JPlJP
