Firs[ of all, I appreciate
your notification of [his potential problem.
DANIELS SAND
I would like to make it a matter of record that the letter from Fred Luiszer appears to be
associated with an unjustified complaint to the EI Paso County Health Department filed
by a Michael Frazier. This Michael Frazier illegally entered a mineshaft located in [he
Snyder Quarry on April 12, 2000. Castle hired two independent mine inspectors to
investigate the complaint, who found no, contaminates within the mineshafts. The EI
Paso County Health Department issued a letter on May 11, 2000 indicating [hat the
complaint was unjustified. I have enclosed letters from the Health Department and mine
inspectors.
Finally, I take exception to the implication that the quarry is "reopening". We have been
in operation since permits were issued. Also, Fred Luiszer's accusation that "quarry
management and others believe that [he water that drains into the closed basin, in which
[he quarry is located, does not drain to the springs of Manitou" is totally unfounded.
If you would like to discuss this situation further please call me at (719) 475-0700.
Sincerely,
Je" rry Herman ,
Vice President
Castle Concrete CO
CASTLE P,O.
