~~"~
Fruita Mine Culvert ReolacementLitch Maintenance
1) Approximately 1800' up the mine access road, located between
the sharp curve to the east and the upper mine bench, an 18' length
of 24" cmp has been installed to pass flow from the outside road
ditch through the road berm. The outlet end of the culvert has
been winched or otherwise bent to the point that it is no longer
functional. The culvert segment needs to be excavated and removed
from the site, and replaced with a new 18' segment of 24" cmp. The
18' length is necessary so that discharge from the outlet will fall
onto competent sandstone ledges lower on the slope rather than
erode into the road embankment. The new culvert needs to be set in
the original location, covered, compacted, and the road berm
rebuilt to its original dimensions.
2) A short distance up the road from the culvert described above,
another 24" cmp, approximately 40' long, passes flow from the
inside road ditch to the outside road ditch. This culvert is
plugged with sediment at its lower end, and needs to be cleaned
out. The short ditch segment (approximately 10 feet) between the
culvert outlet and the inlet to the culvert to be replaced has
filled in with sediment, and needs to be cleaned out.
3) A segment of the inside road ditch beginning approximately 90
feet up the road from the inlet to the 40' culvert, and extending
up along the road for approximately 60 feet has filled in and needs
to be reestablished. The ditch should be at least 30" wide, and 1'
deep with 2:1 side slopes. A sump approximately 4'x4'x4' should be
excavated at the inlet to the 40' cmp.
c:\fruita.dtm
