Mr. L. Dobson
11/14/03
7. The 9700 and 9360 waste rock facilities have been covered with a vegetative soil layer. This
soil cover will reduce potential exposure to human and ecological receptors. Thus, Homestake
disagrees with the seventh recommendation that additional sampling is warranted at this time.
8. Homestake expresses no comment on the eighth recommendation in the PA.
Thank you for your consideration of these comments. Homestake hopes these comments not only
highlight the substantial reclamation activities that have been undertaken at the Bulldog site since the
field visit by SAIC in November 200], but also clarify the current conditions in the Windy Gulch
watershed as those conditions pertain to the Bulldog Mine. Based on the studies and reclamation
activities conducted at the site, Homestake believes potential threats to human health and the
environment, if any, have been addressed. Accordingly, Homestake requests a determination from the
USFS that no further CERCLA action or other action is required a[ the site or, al[ematively, that the site
be archived from the CERCLA process.
Homestake would be pleased to host a tour of the site to show you the extensive reclamation activities
that it has conducted. If you are interested in such a site tour or if you have any questions or require any
clarification of our responses, please contact me.
Sincerely yours,
HDMESTAKE MINING COMPANY
Alan D.
