<br />E%PLOR4TION PLAN AND APPLICATION FOR <br />FEDERAL C0.4L EYPLORATION LICENSE <br />' 1.0 IN`CRODUCTION <br />~x ~g~~~ya.-o4~ <br />' Western Fuels-Utsh, Inc. is submitting this exploration plan and spplication for s <br />Federsl Coal Exploration License on certain unlessed Federal Cosl Lands in Rio <br />' Blanco County, Colorsdo. The exploratory drilling and logging program described <br />herein will evaluste the quantity snd quslity of coal in an srea adjacent to the <br />Deserado Mine Logical Elining Unit. If present, coal from this area could supple- <br />ment existing reserves of fuel for Deseret Generstion and Transmission Coopera- <br />tives' coal-Mired generating station near Bonsnza, Utah. <br />' Western Fuels would like to begin this explorstion progrsm in the spring oP 1989, <br />' as westher permits. <br />' This plan has been prepared in accordance with Federal regulation 93 CFR Part 3400 <br />and includes s brief description of geology, the existing environment, the proposed <br />drilling program, rehabilitation of disturbed land and an explorstion schedule. <br />1 <br />1.1 Property Locstion and Legal Description <br />The Deserado Mine is located in Rio Blanco County, Colorsdo, approximstely fourteen <br />' miles northeast of Rsngely, Colorsdo. Access to the srea from Rangely is via <br />Colorsdo llighway 64 and Rio Blanco County Road 65, the Deserado Mine Road. The <br />' Deserado Mine Logicsl Mining Unit presently includes sie Federal Cosl Lesses <br />(C-023703, D-047201, C-8424, C-8425, C-0126669 and C-49693) containing 6,785.91 <br />' scres. <br />Exploration has been conducted by Western Fuels or. certain adjacent lands under <br />' Exploration Licenses C-28176 and C-91127, both of which sre now expired. .4n <br />"expression of interest" ~vss Yiled by Western Fuels with the Bureau of Lsnd <br />' h4anagement (BLM) for the srea included in License Area C-28176 plus certain other <br />un'.essed federal coal lands. These lands, including the sees described in this <br />' explorstion license application, sre part of the Prairie Dog Tract as delineated in <br />1 <br />1 <br />
