1
Access

1

1

1
t
1

All traffic for trucks and employees will enter from Ridge Road. The access point is
approximately one half mile north of South Lake Gulch Road. Here Ridge Road is on a straight
alignment and flat terrain. This sight distance, both north and south, is more than adequate.
Except for local deliveries on Ridge Road, all the trucks will tam left and head south on Ridge
Road. At the intersection with South Lake Gulch Road, most of the trucks will turn north and
the smaller percentage will tam south.
The intersection of Ridge Road and South Lake Gulch Road was surveyed and is represented on
Figure 3.H.4(2). This intersection has been reviewed for sight distance length and fuming
movement to assure safe and efficient operation of vehiculaz traffic on South Lake Gulch Road.
Ridge Road meets South Lake Gulch Road at a "T" intersection at approximately a 70 degree
skew and is posted for a stop condition.
The measured sight distance northwest of Ridge Road is 350 feet and the measured sight distance
south of Ridge Road exceeds 1000 feet. The posted speed limit for South Lake Gulch Road
northwest of Ridge Road is 25 mph and south of Ridge Road is 35 mph. According to Table
203.2A of the Colorado Department of Transportation 1990 Roadway Design Manual, the
Desirable Stopping Sight Distance for these posted speeds aze 150 feet and 250 feet respectively.
The measured sight distances, therefore, exceed these distances significantly. The Roadway
Design Manual was further reviewed for possible operating speeds at 10 mph above the posted
speed limit and the measured sight distances were found to exceed the distances provided at
these speeds as well. Passing sight distances were not reviewed as South Lake Gulch Road is
striped as a no passing zone.
Regazding turning movement, the 60 foot radius on the north side of Ridge Road at South Lake
Gulch Road exceeds the Simple Curve Radius With Taper criteria for all Design Vehicles as
provided in Table 405.4A of the Roadway Design Manual. The south side of Ridge Road at
South Lake Gulch Road now has a 30 foot radius. It will be increased to a 60 foot radius by
adding pavement. These curve radii will allow right taming truck movements without invading
[he opposing lane.
Comparing the traffic volumes to the CDOT Access Code, it is determined that no acceleration
or deceleration lanes are necessary on South Lake Gulch Road.
Safeq~ plan
' Truck drivers will be informed that speed limits and all County regulations will be strictly
adhered to. Also, through the use of signs at the quarry access at Ridge Road, truck drivers will
be informed that only local deliveries on Ridge Road can tam north. Truck drivers found in
' violation will not have their trucks loaded at the Castle Rock Quarr}~.

' 26
