Haul routes
Haul routes are largely dictated by the location of the customers. Over the yeazs at the Ditmazs
operation, we established a predictable customer base. Since the Castle Rock Quany operation is
quite neaz the present Ditmars operation, it is our intention to maintain the present haul routes.
' Generally, our customer base is to the north. Routes to the north lead to the customer base in
' Castle Rock, subdivisions on the north side of Castle Rock, developments on Route 86 to the
east, and north on Route 83.
' From the site, trucks will access onto Ridge Road (see Figure 3.H.4(1)). Virtually all trucks will
tum south on Ridge Road. Only trucks delivering to customers along Ridge Road will tum
north. Since these trucks will be a small, unpredictable portion of the loads, they have not been
' factored into the percentages.
For the trucks turning south on Ridge Road, we expect 70% will travel north on South Lake
' Gulch Road. At its intersection with Plum Creek Boulevard, half of the trucks, or 35% of the
production, will continue north to customers in Castle Rock and tum east on Route 86 towazd
Franktown. The other half of the loads, or 35% of production, will tum west on Plum Creek
' Boulevazd into Castle Rock and onto I-25 north.
t We expect only 30% of the production wil(tum south on South Lake Gulch Road to service
homes being built in that azea and travel south toward Route 83. No trucks will travel north on
Castlewood Canyon Road. At Route 83, trucks will turn north or south depending on customer
location.
Figure 3.H.4(1) gives the truck loads per day based on the percentage breakdown of traffic taking
different routes from the Castle Rock Quarry operation. These truck loads aze expressed in a
fraction, the top number is the average daily loads and the bottom number is the maximum daily
loads.
1 This traffic plan approximates the present routing of haul trucks. With 25 to 301oads per day,
variations in truck routing of ] 0% or less will not be perceptible.
It is important to remember that rhyolite is a much lighter product than granite. Therefore, our
haul trucks have a lower gross weight than normal aggregate trucks. This results in less weaz and
tear on the roads we use. A lighter load also allows trucks to stop in a shorter distance.
' These routes have worked very well for CMI. Over the last ten years there is no record of any
accident involving rock haul trucks from the Ditmazs operation.

1
25
I ,
