Project No. M83007MT • • <br />West Elk Coal Company <br />July 25, 1983 <br />Paqe Two <br />Site Conditions <br />The fill was placed on a near horizontal surface bounded by <br />a steep slope to the south. The natural elope was as steep as <br />about 1/2:1, horizontal to vertical. <br />The project site supported a volunteer growth of weeds and <br />grass in the area formally used as a mine portal. <br />Fill Placement and Compaction <br />The fill material (coal gob) was placed in layers at near <br />optimum moisture content required for compaction and compacted <br />to at least 95 percent relative compaction as determined by <br />AST6t D-696 and D-1556. Compaction was obtained using a rubber <br />fire loader with segmented sheepsfoot overlays on the rubber <br />tires. Spreading of the material was by a catapillar D-8 dozer. <br />The contractor placing and compacting the fill was Beavers <br />Amt <br />Construction under the direction of Mr. fd Beavers.
