- iii iiiiiiiiniii iii
~ ROBINSON
BRICK ~
COMPANY ~
~ °°, ~
~ ~
October 10, 1986
.,
Mr. Jim McArtyle
Pained Land Reclamation Division
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203
RE: Technical Revisions to P?LRB Permit No. 80-245
Hogback Mine (Titled in Tin Clip Pining Company)
ear "?r.M.cArtyle,
Creation of open stopes at the referenced mine by
underground mining methods began approximately 75 years ago.
The accepted mining practices of those times (ie: stoping
to the surface) resulted in many open stopes in excess of
100 feet in depth with near vertical sides. No open stopes
to the surface have been created by the Robinson Brick Com-
pany (ROBCO) since the late 50's.
The Inactive Mine Reclamation Section of .the MLP.D has
indicated that these old mine n~orkings. could be closed
using federal funds with no cost to £CbCO or Tin Cup Mining
Company. ROBCO would therefore like to request a technical
revision to the referenced permit to allow for the closing
of these stopes.
It is ROBCO's understanding that the preliminary recla-
mation plans for the closing of these open stopes should be
completed by the P4LRD late this year; that the final recla-
mation plans are to begin upon receipt of funds; that the
closing of the stopes is to begin after ROBCO approves the
plans; and that all work is to be completed over the next
several years. (All reclamation plans for the closing of
the stopes are being designed by the MLPJ and approved by
ROBCO.)
Portions of the open stopes to be reclai:~e3 are included
in the mining plan of the referenced permit. If ROBCO
redisturbes these areas through future open mining methods,
ROBCO will reclaim the areas per the reclamation standards
as stated in the then current reclamation plan.
If you are in need of other information or have any
questions please contact me.
Sinc rely,
Michael G.
