I • The remaining mass of old landslide deposiu is stable under current conditions.
• Smaller scale active landslide movements are occurring on steeper parts of the old
1 landslide mass. These movemenu aze relatively slow.
• I-ongwall mining beneath the Jumbo Mountain landslide is highly unlikely to cause
the resumption of deep-seated movement of the old landslide mass.
• Mining is also unlikely to increase the incidence or rate of movement of the smaller
scale active landslides. These movements are likely to continue with or without
mining, particularly during spring snowmelt.
_ • Subsidence will lead to surface craclarg which mzy be difficult to distinguish from
I cracking due to landslide movement.
• Neither the large ancient landslide movements or the current small-scale movements
J Krill potentially affect the successful development of a longwall mining panel as
currently proposed.
1 If mining proceeds, it is recommended that inclinometers be installed in two borings to the north
of the northern limit of mining. These should not be positioned in areas of current instability.
l They should terminate below the 'B' seam. It is also recommended that two piezometers be
installed to the north of the proposed mine at the inclinometer locations and two piezometers
1 should be installed to the south of the mine. These instruments should be sited once the location
of the mine has been confirmed.
-14-
0: \Off\30\JPiVIRLO•Rpt.lkl
I .•
