Revegetation Program
The revegetation program has been adapted from recommendations
of the Soil Conservation Service (see letter from Mr. Jeff Burwell,
~ Exhibit i/J) with some additions suggested by Mr. Schmeidinq of
the MLRB staff.
1. Fetilizer - After recoiling, soil tests will be performed to
determine if fertilizer is necessary. However, generally
•
fertilizer is not planned for, at least not during the first
' year as all such fertilization does is encourage weed growth.
2. Screen Planting - Two rows of trees will be planted along the
~ east and a portion (800 feet) of the south side as a noise
and visual screen. First, 3 to 10 feet of topsoil will be
placed above the existing ground level. Next, nursery size
Russian Olive trees (350 total) will be planted on 6_fobt
~ centers along the top of the berm as an outside row and
Rocky Mountain Junipers (210 total) on 10 foot centers on
the inside row. Twenty feet will be left between the rows
and planting will occur in the spring. These trees will be
~ watered weekly with a drip system for the first th;ee grow-
ing seasons then allowed to grow naturally. Ground cover
around the trees will consist of crested wheatgrass drilled
at 10 pounds/acre, or broadcast at 20 pounds/acre.
~ 3. West and North Sides - In the homesite areas a combination of
buffalo grass and blue grams will be planted at the rate of
25 pounds and 3 pounds respectfully, (or broadcast at double
this rate). This area will be watered several times per
~ month during the growing season.
Reclamation Timetable
The reclamation phases listed may be correlated with maps 5 and 6
~ (Exhibits D and F). The phases correspond to mining stages and
are numbered accordingly. The below estimates are based on 60
months from start to finish. If mining proceeded faster or slow-
er, the timetable would vary accordingly, but be in sequence as
~ outlined below.
~•
~•
•
