Dept. of Natural Resources
Your notice of inspection received. 1 am sopSrrq that 1 missed you.
~tef. #1 'rho overcasting of waste rock is essential in any operation.
The dimension stone industry requires stone to be free of cracks
seams and deformities. Block patterns rnust be uniform. r•his does
necessitate a selection and culling process, and a du,~p.
'Phere is one thing that puzzles me. Last year the inspector
thought the overcast area was satisfactory, and this year the dump
is on-going end in violation. For the life of me, I cant see any
change ire appearance at a 11. The size, shape, and area has stayed
the same. The only possible e>:planation must be that 1 had listed
the area as being ~} acre. This ~~;a~ jud,.e on an trial photo looking
straight dosn. your man mu.t hive looked a~ he dump on the c,5
degree angle and said this must be an acre or twc, and is enlarging
at an alarming rate. 4ctually the area v;as file same last year.
ow, I am sure if tenpeople measured this, there r,ouid ten different
eva~zations. if this dump area measurement figure is all important
1 would sug est that you make it, ana that each ye~.r you ma'.ce it.
:his is probably theonly w y to avoid a controversy~or ruaking ciountains
out of mote hills. ~ am not tryi.n: to be say astic, but it appears
to me that you should do it and 1 will accept your figure.
T'othing is being dumped in the caest end of the overcast. l"e are
working is the east end of the quarry and aro dumping there. !-Je
should stay there for 5 years or more
Ref. t~4 Our blasting proceedures are excellent. I'o dyna~aiting,
no flying rock. ~_mly black povrder and expertly controlled. '.e do
have expensive machinery on the same ledge very close to granite
being quarried. I also have my house and family at the base of the
mountain. ~aarrying is simple, a big block is reliedeland it slides
down to the level landing. Landing, is large and catches everything.
Lig block is quarried into small liftable blocks. Good usable blocks
are loaded on trucks for town. small unusalhle chunks are placed to
make landing bigger or are slid down the overcast area in selected
safe reas.
^ketch and photo is enclosed.
Sincerely,
