Stasinos, <br />'T'his l :tier is in response to your request for a written summary of the incident we discussed by telephone on <br />Febn aryl, 2003. Approximately25 to 30 gallons of gear oil leaked from a Lafarge cane t•n,cher oil- <br />circul: sing system on the morning of February 7~, 2003. The leak was caused when a sire gage fa~7ed. '11re <br />event occwied at the Cottonwood Pit, k:cated at 2002 CounryRoad 20'/z, Longmont, Colorado. , <br />The g eaz orlleaked omo the ground surface, which was frozen, and pooled directly adjacent w the release <br />sous:. The depth of peaeuation was limited to approximately 1 to 2 inches, due to the frozen ground. <br />Inter in the morning, Lafarge e:cavated the pooled gear oil and approximately 6 tabu yards of absorbent <br />mater wl and affected sails for transport to Lafarge's nearby Asphalt Plant locoed at 8715 Weld CountyRoad <br />5, La ~nb Cnloxado. The excavated material is suaable to be rncycled and wr71 be mAted wirh feed <br />materials to make asphah. <br />The g ear or1 did not enrer a wazerway, ditch or storm sewer, and it did not contact any surface water or <br />grotty d water.
