Canadian Mine
will be sampled for year 9 data for Phase lII'release. Greystone proposes to sample first then
graze. This is acceptable and makes more sense to the Division. I reminded Jerry that they
need to manage the reference area and the none site the same. The reference area is not
fenced. I suggested he contact the grazing lease holder on the reference area and coordinate
sampling and grazing. I reminded him about Rule 4:15.5(2) that grazing may not interfere or
preclude postmining vegetation sampling. The Division needs to receive a grazing plan for
Canadian prior to implementation.
CCMC #1 will be sampled this summer for Phase II data. In 1995, Kaiser initiated a grazing
plan to try to increase the density of warm season grasses. 1996 will be the second year of
the grazing plan. In the Fall of 1995 the Division and Greystone observed an increase in
warm season grasses. Since the Phase II release is dependent upon cover and to a portion
the diversity, the plan will be to graze early in the growing season, April-late May, take the
cattle off. A]low the vegetation to respond then sample towards the end of July or early
August. This is acceptable to the Division. I reminded Jerry that if the plan is significantly
