My comments regazding the Marr Mine revegetation sampling proposal are listed bel"ow~ Resource Trustee
Generally, the plan is acceptable, however many details need to be clarified.
Please list the four reclaimed areas to be sampled. In the final report please
provide a map delineating each area and show all the transect locations.
Please delineate the reference areas on a map and show transect locations. In the
final report describe how the reference areas are weighted to determine the
revegetation success standazd.
The approved permit states there are four reference areas. The monitoring report
submitted by ESCO in 1999 explained that the area originally designated as the
Sagebrush-Gravel reference azea was combined with the Treated Sagebrush
reference area. However, the permit has not been revised to indicate this change.
Please revise the permit with the reference area locations and the reasoning
for combining reference areas. The map will need to be updated to show the
all reference area locations.
4. Please describe how each transect is randomly located within each reclaimed azea
and within each reference area.
5. Please specify the type of plant cover that will be collected, ie. Current year
growth listed by species, litter, rock etc.. First hit will be recorded. (Subsequent
hits can also be collected, but do not need to be.)
6. Please specify the details of production sampling. For example, current yeazs
herbage yield. Since three quadrats will be clipped for each transect, the detailed
raw data for each quadrat along each transect must be included in the final report.
The weight of each clipped quadrat along the transect should be summed, not
averaged.
7. The allowable relative cover and production of annual and biennial species should
not exceed 10 percent, or the relative cover and production of such species in the
associated reference area.
