Permit No. C-025-81
Dear Mr. Liddle:
The purpose of this letter is to inform the Division of the
change of status here at the North Thompson Creek Mines. On
July 24, 1984, Snowmass Coal Company laid-off all remaining hourly
employees and temporarily ceased all mining activities. Snowmass
was forced to do this because we cannot find a buyer for our coal.
Currently there are 14 salary employees left at the mine.
We are continuing to pump water from the mines and perform daily
and weekly examinations of the mine. However, there is no coal
being mined from No. 1 and No. 3 mines.
In terms of the environmental aspects of this mine, there
is essentially no change. All water monitoring, revegitating
and environmental reporting will remain the same as before.
Snowmass Coal Company intends to resume operations as soon
as buyers are found for our coal. We hope that this temporary
cessation of our mining operation is a short lived one and that
we can resume normal operations in the very near future.
pS~incerely,
/v~ (~~~-
Scott Jones
Environmental Engineer
SJ:mgc
cc: Mark Fuller
506 East Main Street
Aspen, CO 81611
